Hardly any other medium causes more problems for O-ring seals than hot water and steam, especially when it comes to applications in the high-temperature range above 150°C. CREAFLEX® HT elastomers have a temperature resistance of up to +280°C. Leading manufacturers of pumps and valves have already successfully used CREAFLEX® HT elastomers.

Elastomers change their mechanical properties at temperatures around freezing point. This has a massive influence on the sealing properties. At a low temperature of below -20°C, there is a risk that the elastomers of the O-rings will become irreversibly brittle. The consequences of damaged O-ring seals are leakages and thus a failure of compressors, pumps as well as valves.

In the oil and gas industry, extraordinary stresses are placed on the sealing material. Here, seals must function reliably with critical gases and at high pressures of up to 400 bar. When pressure is released quickly, conventional elastomer seals can be damaged by "explosive decompression". The consequences are enormous damage to pumps and pipelines. Immense costs are associated with the standstill of production plants.
